Technology plays a dominant part in shaping lives. We have seen how advances in technology have changed society beyond our imagination. As tech creators, it's time for us to take a step back and consider the impact of what we are building.

The Designated Dissenter is a card deck designed to spark conversations about the impacts of technology. They'll allow you to consider the externalities of tech from a human values perspective, and help foster open feedback culture within your teams.

The Designated Dissenter card deck is now available online! Facilitate remote discussions with your team on Figma, or access the TDD MIRO board.

I'm Shirley Lai, a graduate of Hyper Island's MA in Digital Management course. As part of my thesis, I researched tech and design ethics, and the ways organisation and team culture play a part in ethical conversations. This card deck is born out of an experiment for my thesis.

I’m also a digital Product Designer, who enjoys developing vision and strategy for digital products, workshop facilitation, and solving complex system problems. Discuss these topics with me, or find me on Twitter where I talk about tech ethics, UX design and UX writing. Tag me on Twitter if you use the TDD cards with your team!
